I use an nVidia GTX 660 to great effect.

I'm sorry for bringing this topic back up but I still haven't decided what exactly to go with.

 

Should I go with x99 then with i7-6850K? If yes then what motherboard should I pick? Or should I wait for new hardware that's coming out this year?

The i7-6860K has more PCIe lanes and supports more memory, but from a processing perspective it is actually less powerful than an i7-8700k.

 

Personally, I would wait as long as is practical before choosing hardware.

If you are doing ML, it's all about the GPU, not CPU.
