I've not encountered this before, it's a hard drive I've had for years that I used previously in another computer, this also didn't start in my new case until recently. I have a hard drive tray that allows me to slot in three hard drives. I have one in the middle and one on the bottom then my SSD on the top. The bottom HDD is vibrating a substantial amount, when I place my figures on it I can feel it vibrate though the whole of my hand. This in turn is making my case vibrate and the noise lasts some time and this comes and goes. Why is this happening? Depending on the response as to why it is happening can I reduce or even stop this vibrating?

Well a HDD is made of moving parts and when it's active it'll resonate through the case.

Maybe get some sound absorbing foam and put the drive on that.

I have an HDD that sounds like Rambo firing a machine gun. But as Dildor already said, it's normal for HDDs to vibrate, just put some dampening between it and the cage and you should be fine. (little fun fact: when you open a 7200rpm HDD and then plug it in, 1. it scares you to death 2. it will probably try to kill you 3. mine jumped of the desk onto my floor and i was lucky that the sata power cable just ripped of the powersupply)

Yes, and that's fine. However this HDD has never done this and has recently just started to do it. Plus, I've never heard a HDD vibrate nearly as hard as this one is. It's out of the ordinary.

Maybe the drive cage is a bit poo then.

What drive and case? Some drives are much nosier than others. And some case HDD cages "work loose"

Maybe it's just the cage working loose.
