Basically, what I am trying to do is find a way to play the "Futurama" video game for PS2 without wasting ridiculous amounts of money for one of the original disks which are actually quite rare. There seems to be only one good emulator available, but it only supports physical disks which I do not have access to. I do have a PS2 which I can get the metadata from or whatever it's called, but I was wondering if there are any other emulators that can play a rom file or if it is possible to burn a game to a disk of some sort (CD or DVD)? I am not asking for a rom which would be against the guidelines, I just wanted to know if there are other emulators or if you could burn a PS2 disk.

Emulation and a ROM however doing so would be illegal.

PCSX2 fully supports booting ROMs.

It does require a BIOS which is even more illegal than a ROM though.

Oh, nevermind then. Thanks.

No problem. Here is a screenshot of where to find that menu option i found on google real quick (no pcsx2 installed on my work PC)

Keep in mind though, obviously, ISOs will need to be ripped from physical discs. You're on your own when it comes to sailing the seven seas.

edit: Master Disaster also noted the BIOS, which I forgot. Good luck

AFAIK emulation (even if it requires a BIOS file) is not illegal if you own the real hardware. and own the games of course.

you are expected to dump the bios file from your own console.

seems like futurama is not all that expensive - at least not on ebay.de - some games can be had cheaper if you buy an import version (JAP version is often cheaper for example)

yes it would be an import game that is probably PAL and not NTSC (i am assuming you live in a NTSC region) but a physical copy is a physical copy. ( = not pirated)

Emulation isn't illegal at all however the BIOS file contains code that falls under copyright and having a copy of a BIOS without owning the original hardware means you're 100% breaking the law. Luckily for me I own both a phat & slim PS2 anyway which means I don't need to emulate.

As for the old "you can have a ROM if you own the game" argument, it's grey at best. It's never actually been tested in a court and while most devs don't care if people are emulating their 15 year old games it still remains untested and therefore unknown.

let's say i own a PS2, and a physical copy of all the games i ever play on the emulator.

buy i am just too lazy to get up from my computer, blow the dust off the console and find a TV to hook it up to (many modern TVs dropped analog inputs already and PS2 does not have HDMI)

not to mention i can play at 2x, 3x, 4x the video resolution the original hardware would provide

and where is the difference between me pulling the game disc from the shelf instead of playing from an ISO i created myself from this exact disc ? other than not wearing down the orignal disc and not dealing with terrible load times

this is technically the same as creating a backup file of a DVD movie. the disk stays on the shelf and does not get worn or damaged while i can watch the movie even on a laptop without optical drive

so ... i say using iso files from games YOU PHYSICALLY OWN is about as legal as a movie backup.

Yeah, they're not so cheap here in the US.
