NVMe or M.2?

Hi guys

I wanna buy nvme or m.2 ssd but performance wise they say that nvme is better but i dont know about compatibility with mobo and cpu.

I found this one but not sure about compatibility i have r5 1600 and ill buy asus prime x370 pro mobo.

NVME Drives use the PCI-E bus which is faster than the M.2 standard which uses the same NAND system that m.2 ssd's use

 

So nvme drives are usually significantly faster than m.2 drives

M.2 is the connector... the small candybar like SSDs that plug directly into the mainboard.

 

Then there are the different types of M.2 Slots, some support NVME and SATA, others only SATA.

 

If your board can use NVME would be in the spec sheet.

You're comparing apples and oranges. M.2 is the physical connector, while NVMe is the logical connection, like AHCI.

The M.2 Slot is a Connector, like ps2, usb, pata, sata, agp, pci, isa, pcie... the physical connector to plug a thingimajig in. 

 

How that connector is wired on the board is different in many cases... Like I said, old M.2 slots just support SATA SSDs, while more modern ones support both NVME and SATA... 

 

PCIE connectors on notebooks where wifi cards or other peripherials are connected are a different thing again.
