Yeah I was wondering if the 7700k is compatible with my motherboard- msi b150m mortar.

yup as long as the bios is updates

Try using the PSU Tier List! 

How to reset the bios/clear the cmos

 

My current rig:

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x

Ram: 1x16gb DDR4, 2x8gb DDR4

Storage: 1tb nvme ssd

GPU: gtx 3080

Monitor: 23.8" Dell S2417DG 144hz g-sync 1440p + 27" Acer S271HL 60 Hz 1080p

Keyboard: ducky one I | I SF

Mouse: gpro wireless | glorious model o2 wireless

Sound : beyerdynamic 1990 pro | Monoprice liquid spark (amp) + topping d10 (dac)

But... you know... why...

kind of a waste to get a non overclocking board with a top-end overclockable CPU.

If you already own the board and need a new CPU, get the 7700 instead.
If you already own both, upgrade the board if you can.
if you own neither, don't do this!!! get a z-series board (and try to get coffee lake since new=good)
if you only own the CPU, i don't think that's the case, but if you do, get a z-series board.

Don't bother getting that CPU then I'd say. Wait to get a new board and CPU if you can and do that when you get the $$$$, otherwise just get a non-overclockable CPU like the 7700 for now. By the time you are ready to upgrade again, it'll likely be more worth it to upgrade the whole platform
