Hey, I found some old books that my dad bought a long time ago about sql servers and I was looking forward to reading them to try and learn stuff about sql servers. I dont need the knowledge right now but I feel like it might be a good practice to know it for the future. The only problem is that these books are about sql server version 7.0, so I was wondering if it's even worth reading them since they are pretty damn big, or if I should just find some pdfs online of the latest 14.0 version. Thanks

I wouldn't recommend reading a book from 1998 for SQL, if you really want to learn SQL for free, you could use Microsoft Virtual Academy (which includes subtitle) for SQL:

You could start with the fundamental SQL: https://mva.microsoft.com/en-US/training-courses/sql-database-fundamentals-16944

If you want to continue to learn more about SQL, you can continue onward to basic Querying for SQL: https://mva.microsoft.com/en-US/training-courses/querying-with-transactsql-10530?l=TjT07f87_9804984382

Microsoft have several courses related to Database on their Virtual Academy: https://mva.microsoft.com/product-training/sql-server#!index=5&lang=1033

And on top of that, it's all legal and you could use those courses to help you earn certification for SQL.
