Recently, I moved into a new house. Previously belonged to my grandma, so I had to go in and run new Cat6 cable through the house. My router provided by my ISP is garbage in a good amount of the house, so I was planning on putting a WAP in my room, and I don't want to buy a brand new one, so I found one I bought 8 years ago. The stats on it still look pretty solid (I bought it before I really understood too much about anything). I used it for about a full year and it's been in storage for the last seven years, still in the original retail packaging, tucked away in a rubbermaid, and left alone ever since.

As mentioned in the title, it is a Cisco/Linksys E2000 Advanced Wireless-N Router.

It works on both 2.4 and 5GHz, it has 4 gigabit LAN ports (not that I plan on using them)

My network goes from the ISP all-in-one to a Netgear 8-port gigabit switch (because the provided one only has 4 ethernet ports, two of which are used by the cable box and a different wireless transmitter for two different cable boxes).

I'm trying to run the setup program, but it's not detecting the router. Running the cables, I've run 2 outlets into my room, both of which I've verified work with my laptop, and I've checked with multiple cables, again, all work with my laptop in both ports. Cisco's FAQ recommends trying the reset button, which I've done.

Then they recommend trying it after disabling your firewall, which I tried and it didn't work.

Is it the fact that I'm running the signal through the switch first and then trying to run it to the router?

Have you tried logging into the ISP all-in-one router (I'm assuming this is the main router), and seeing what IP address is assigned to the Linksys router? See if you can ping / access the manual setup page using the IP in a browser.

My guess is that the setup program (Which I never use to be honest) is trying to find the router at 192.168.1.1 (default gateway for most places), but that spot is given to the ISP router (which gives the Linksys one a different IP)

Well, the dancing pixies coming out the wall seem to have righted themselves.

I tried screwing around with it again this morning for about 4 hours and decided to unplug it for some reason. I came back to it after an hour and plugged it back in and it is working now. Who knows.

I never gave it any thought up until now, but apparently my laptop doesn't support the 5GHz bandwidth (Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200, 802.11 b/g/n). I changed the settings and the router disappeared from my available connections. But my phone can still connect. But, like I said in my initial post, I'm using a wired connection on it while I'm home.

Thanks for the help.
