Hey,

Lately I've been playing a lot of Fortnite, but today something went wrong. Suddenly, I went from 60-80 fps to (non-moving) 30 or 40 fps.

I checked if V-sync was off and it was.

Then I looked up to the Aorus graphics engine (since I have a Gigabyte RX580) and I noticed that Fan speed was 0%. Also, GPU usage was 100% the entire time.

Does someone know a solution to this? Thanks.

Looks like a driver soft crash. It happened to me on my old GT 970, when the driver failed but recovered, performance would cut almost to half. (A reboot would fix it until the next crash).

It may be something like this, note that not always was evident to me that the driver crashed and recovered, sometimes a small pop up would say so, sometimes Event viewer said so, since mine was NV it may not even happen to you with an RX, but who knows.)

Try this:

Reboot and play fortnite right after boot.

If you get back your 60-80fps its was a driver soft crash. Try an older driver, preferably a stable driver (not beta).

Cheers!

It could be multiple factors at work here, could be a driver issue. Try rolling to a stable version or updating (if drivers are outdated) if that does not work, take out the GPU clean it thoroughly with air blower or canned air (hold down the fans when using air blower) ,it all that doesn't work ,its time to get the fan or cooler replaced or perhaps GPU if you are capable
