EVGA GTX 780

cmc

To start, I have to say I've been an AMD fanboy for a while, but I'm starting to get sick of recent business endeavors by manufacturers. I've been waiting for a very good while for my ASUS DirectCU II R9 290, but with the price jumps just to get a reasonably quiet and cool card, I'm looking to nVidia. So what do you guys think about this EVGA GTX 780? Note I'm planing on running 2K in near future, but have a 1080p Dell Ultrasharp monitor right now.

Part of the complaints I heard about nVidia was that some manufacturers make overpriced 4GB cards with only 256-bit bus, but this one matches the GB/126-bit ratio, only has 1GB/128 less than the R9s, and has a trustworthy manufacturer and good cooler for about the same price as recent R9 290s. Should I go for this one instead just so I can stop stressing and waiting for a decent card, or should I wait? Will the extra extra VRAM with an aftermarket cooler be worth putting it off and maybe getting a better price once this whole thing settles down? All thoughts welcome. Thanks

It is really good, I wouldnt get it at that price though, I would pick this up http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130951&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

I'm basically in the same boat, I moved off nVidia around the 8800GT era and have been red team since. But now that I'm in a full time job and I don't have to worry as much about how much I can squeeze in for the smallest price I am looking to move to green team mostly just because its a fewer hassles experience, mostly just around smoothness of gameplay rather than pure FPS. I'm tossing up at the moment between the Windforce version and the DCUII.

It doesn't really matter which 780 you get. As long as it's aftermarket, it's not much different from any other aftermarket 780.

I'd wait a bit and see how aftermarket 290's fare though.
