Could be a harddrive problem. I recently had a SSD that did the same thing. It was broken. Good thing for me that i stored all the files on another harddrive. Otherwise they would be gone.

that's a very general problem to diagnose... Try getting into the bios. Then update the info in the bios

If you are referring to the loading ring for Windows 10 then turn off the laptop, remove any USB dongles or anything like that and boot the laptop. For some reason after some Windows updates it won't fully boot with a USB mouse dongle or something of the sort plugged in. Not sure why but I have had this problem with many computers.

does it stay forever on the ring or does it ever shutdown or reboot after a while of sitting on the loading ring?

does the loading ring continue to spin or does it stop?

what was the last thing to happen before this started?

did he get a blue screen or anything like that before this started?

or maybe he didn't shut it down properly, or power failure.

Install any drivers or software, just before it happend

Anything info we can get about how and when this started would help with the diagnosis
