Hello community members!

I'm 14, and interested in computers. Simple as that. In my ela class, we're doing projects on a concept called 20% time, created by google. (if you'd like to learn more about the idea, you can check it out here: http://www.20time.org) The basic idea is that we get one day a week to work on a project revolving around a subject that we're interested in. I've always been addicted to pc building, so naturally I chose to do mine on that. After some thought, I've decided to create a video on: 1) how to build a pc, and 2) common mistakes and how to troubleshoot problems. I have a few ideas about topics to cover in my video, but I'd also like to reach out to you guys and ask if there are any other common pc building mistakes or ideas that you think i should integrate into my tutorial. I'll be sure to give everyone credit. Thanks!

i recommend that you talk about the front panel connectors (HDD led, PWR Switch, etc.) I find that those connectors are easiest to mix up as the wire's polarity may not be clearly stated on the wires themselves. That's something small yet occasionally frustrating at least for me.

  1. Always ask for help. There are people who are more experienced than you
  2. Look for benchmarks of components to see if they are good or not. Avoid sites that compare items without any sources (cpuboss/gpuboss, passmark, game debate, geekbench...). Good benches are Cinebench for CPU, Unigene for GPU and also run some real world tests like games and exporting/encoding videos.
  3. You do need NVMe drives. It is a waste if money, does not increase boot up time or game load time. It is useful if you are a hardcore professional video editor of some sort.
  4. Blower style and one fan cards are usually hot and loud. Look for open air cards with multi fan designs.
  5. R5>i5 (up to 7th gen).
  6. Blue is the best color.
  7. RGB will give you extra petformance increase.
  8. Look for VRM cooling of the motherboard if you plan to overclock your CPU. Also a decent cooling solution is useful when doing so. 120mm AIO are usually bad in terms of price and performance wise as similar air coolers performs better while costing same or less.
  9. PCPartPicket is a nice website to get started
  10. PSU efficiency does not equal to PSU quality. A more efficient PSU can be bad. Example are EVGA NEX Gold, Deepcool DSQT have gols rating but is far worse than EVGA G2/G3 for example. Also regarding PSU do not buy them by brands. EVGA makes one of the worst PSU such as the W1 and one of the best like G3. Same goes to other makers.
  11. Higher RAM speed will have impact on performance.
  12. thats all i can think of

SPECS: Intel Core i5-4460 // PowerColor Red Dragon RX 480 4GB // 1x8GB DDR3 RAM // Delta 500AB-6A PSU // HyperX Cloud Stinger / Logitech G710+ / Logitech G502 / Xbox One Halo Guardian controller // LG 24M45H 1080p //

When I did my first build, i was excited at every little thing I had the booklet beside me at all times and took it slow.

They have pictures and whatnot noe on them, so it should be pretty easy.

On the higher end motherboards, it's even easier as you get a little adapter for the FP connectors.
