What's firmware?

my brother said my phone needs a firmware update and i have no clue what that is. and how to or what to download ETC.

My Current phone firmware is  [samsung galaxy j7 sm-j700h] and he said. i cant download firmware samsung galaxy j7 sm-j700f Latest firmware or it will burn. or something. it needs to be the same version but the latest firmware

i'm a noob here :)

just because someone says something doesnt mean its necessary nor correct. With mobile phones, the firmware is pushed from your vendor after they test it to ensure on issues with their network. No need to manually do it.

firmware is like the bios, the first level of communication between hardware and software.

that's why i'm here.to understand what it is..can you provide information on it? if you know what it is.

Your phone if you have it set to will auto magically do it itself but if it isn't when the update to the firmware is out it will ask you download it or set a time to do so like at night when your asleep 

 

the idea that an update would burn your battery out is just dumb and uninformed.

Ex frequent user here, still check in here occasionally. I stopped being a weeb in 2018 lol

i see. but how can i check if i have the latest UPDATE. so i can be safe and certain.

in the settings page on your phone or it will just pop up a notification asking you to update similar to if you have ever had a Iphone how it will ask you to download the latest version of IOS.

i have no choice honestly. this morning my phone stoped calling. it calls but it doesn't ring. which is weird.
