For Reference - A couple of my Spotify playlists

Dunno if the more expensive ones are worth it and I would kind of like waterproofing since I live in Scotland

Do you 100% need bluetooth? And does it need to be portable?

Yes and yes. This is for carrying in my bag and playing spotify from my phone. I'll probably still be using this in a few years when even Samsung have ditched the headphone jack so bluetooth is a must. Portable also because It needs to fit in my bag.

Probably look up reviews for each one, but the soundcore 2 seems like it should alright at least.

I honestly never cared for bluetooth speakers.

Their main selling port is ... well bluetooth and nothing else.

Just know that you can make anything with an AUX in bluetooth compatible with one of these

I find bluetooth speakers convenient and really just want one of them. I know there are adapters but an all in one solution is easier.

You would still need to find a speaker with an easily rechargeable battery though in that case, which all are going to have blue tooth anyways

Hmmm I wonder, what's the battery life on an average bluetooth speaker ?

From my quick and dirty research it looks to me like even one of these receivers can match most bluetooth speakers in battery life.

talk about convenience ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

The point is that if you buy a decent quality rechargeable speaker, it's gonna be bluetooth anyway so you don't need the reciever.

Exactly, which is why bluetooth speakers have the leeway to be utter crap.

Manufacturers know they can get away with it because their functionality and ease of use fill a very specific 'need' in the market.

I'm talking about buying a decent one so your point is moot. Those recievers exist to make cars and mains speakers that don't have bluetooth, compatible with it

The only place I see that making sense is if you have wall power and the speakers in question don't have bluetooth

Otherwise unless you carry a boombox with like 6 C batteries, you really don't need such a device.

My point is that there are no decent portable bluetooth speakers in terms of soundquality ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Originally but you should know how many people are beginning to use them for their Amplifiers and DAC's, Bookshelf speakers and even headphones (given that there is a 3.5 port) which is making me reeally happy.

1. There are if you're not a total audiophile and just want something half decent for using when not near your PC.

2. I'm sure they are but if you looked at the links I posted at the top, it's clear I want a portable bluetooth speaker.
