MAC addresses are also known as physical addresses, as they're part of the device, akin to firmware, rather than something that can be configured in software like IP addresses. Changes in software will not change the device's MAC address.

Well, you can spoof a MAC address (through software), so the first bit isn't exactly the clearest way of putting it.

For clarity sake:

A MAC address is a unique identifier for any given piece of hardware that connects to the internet. Installing a new operating system won't affect the MAC address, however there are ways to fake your MAC address to make the device look like another device.

Why don't you add your Mac address to the permitted addresses on your router. Or just disable Mac filtering

By the way, if you use a dedicated wifi adapter, you find find the MAC address on a sticker stuck to it, whether it's a USB stick or network card.

Edit: This is the chip's permanent address, unless you decide to change it.
