Delidded 8700K 5.2GHz Lightroom PC Build

Hey folks!

New here, but no stranger to Linus' channel. I recently finished (and wrote about in extreme detail on my website) my PC build optimized for my Adobe Lightroom Classic CC work. Just a hobby, but I spent a ton of time in Lightroom editing 42MP raws from my Sony A7R III while on trips and develop detailed photosets of my trips. I have been wanting a faster rig for use in the Develop module of Lightroom where I spend most of my time, especially as I'm gearing up for a safari to Rwanda and Tanzania and will likely be coming back with a terabyte or two of shots to edit. The Develop module isn't terribly efficient when it comes to multiple cores - compared to Premiere Pro which is very efficient with both GPU and CPU. As such I opted for fewer cores (not like 18 that would be great for a video rig) with a good OC.

I went with a delidded 8700K at 5.2GHz at 1.42V, DDR4-3200 @ 3333 CL14 at 1.4V and a GTX 1080 Ti at 2012 MHz / 11,200 MHz. For the display color accuracy was important to me so I went with the 4K Dell UP2718Q. Total build cost was about $6k but that includes a ton of stuff including display, VESA arm and related cable management things.

Much more detail on my site -- I spent about 4 months of spare time weekends writing up 32,000 words around the process, why I picked certain parts, how I configured Windows, LR and more about my LR workflow if you're interested in that stuff: <link removed>

What about after taxes... shipping costs... prices were likely different when these parts were ordered and it's always safer to overestimate than claim you built a pc for 4k when in reality it was 4500.

I have a detailed parts list in my article, but I'm not including desk/chair (that would be another $2400 -- it's a sit/stand walnut humanscale float + $1500 or so) etc in there.  This was retail prices at the time I purchased and not including shipping/tax:

What a beaut. Very sexy. Any reason you don't want it on your desk?

Mainly because it would block a great deal of the natural light I get from that window on the side, and make the desk a bit more cramped.

Yeah it already looks so cramped. /s  (the natural light thing is very reasonable and it would look bulky on a sleek minimalistic desk though)

I honestly would never get a Apple Magic Keyboard (key travel hight, size, no num block, .. price) and would probably saved a bit monitor on the monitor arm, too (400$ is a kinda high price for a single one). But if you like if you like how they look and find yourself productive while using them thats fine I guess :)

The whole package of course looks super clean and sleek and I really like that. Over all the minimalistic but natuaral room and desk setup looks very harmonic.

The whole thing wouldn't suit me since I can't keep such things clean for longer than maybe a hald hour 9_9

So super neat and super powerful, maybe a bit pricy on one or the other side but as long you like it a super build!

Nice and clean build. But, there is always a "but", the case choice might not be the best one for airflow, If the temps are in check after prolonged testing, then it's fine.

Enjoy it responsibly.

What a gorgeous setup. Though I can't say I'm a fan of the keyboard, I've never been able to like how to feels.

To each their own though. Enjoy.

The detailed article was a bit long winded for me  :p. I clicked the link, scrolled a bit, gasped, then exited: lol. Thanks for linking the parts list; I wouldn't have seen it otherwise. Never the less the parts list is very nice and by the looks mighty comfortable. How do you like that monitor?

I've been thinking about a 4k but I'm waiting for a 32" IPS 4k @ 144hz  <4ms response  for sub $1500.
