7970 questions about differences between two cards

I bought two ASUS 7970 DCU2 v2 cards and there are differences between the two cards that I would like explained. One card is limited in vcore and clocks (1175mv and 1125mhz) and the other 7970 can be adjusted to 1300mv and the clocks can be pushed higher (I forget). I have checked and both cards are using the same bios.

May I ask why one card is different than the other? Is there any way I can unlock the extra vcore and clocks of the one card? Thank you

Probably BIOS values being changed that I don't think you can modify.

This but you can modify by flashing the BIOS.

There shouldn't be any difference AFAIK.  Just use Sapphire Trixx for OCing and you can force 1381mV on any 7970 (at least in my experience from a year ago when I had 7970's)...

Is there a setting in trixx that is hidden that enables this? Also what about unlocking the clocks?

True, but I meant without re-flashing it.

Are you sure you don't have something along the lines of one card being 'just' a DCU2 and the other a DCU2 OC or TOP version? Asus does bin their chips I believe.

Why are you using trixx ? It was very buggy with my Sapphire 7970, it also couldn't let me over-volt the VRAM.

MSI Afterburner was far easier to work with.

MSI AB will not allow me to adjust the voltage What-So-Ever with my problem card. The slider is greyed out.

I am sure that my "good" 7970 is not a TOP card. It would show up in GPU Tweak as a Top card if it was.

If you were unable to unlock the voltage through a BIOS flash nor MSI afterburner your card might be hardware locked, physically compare both cards to determine if the "problem" card is of a different revision.

It seems so weird to me that I can use Trixx to increase the clocks past 1125 and use GPU Tweak 2.2.1.4 to increase the vcore up to 1.4v BUT I can't some how either flash a bios to make this card like my other one or use just one program to OC and OV past those thresholds (1125clocks and 1175mv).
