Hello

So, let's start from the beginning. I was freaking out about this whole spectre security flaw, so I wanted to update my firmware (bios) in order to stay safe. The update went smoothly, updating from bios version F5 (on my gigabyte gaming K3) to the latest F9b. However when I was in my bios checking my settings, I then saw that my CPU vcore was set to 1.260. I changed it back to where it had been before the update, at 1.180. However when I went to play a game about 30 minutes in the game froze and I had to restart my system. I could quickly identify that it was the vcore. Now to my question, how come I cant run it at the vcore that it was at before? And get this, even running it at 1.260vcore gives me error and stops some of my cores, meaning they dont get enough power! This is with hyperthreading on btw, disabling hyperthreading gives me no errors in prime95 running the CPU at 1.260vcore.

Please, any help regarding this is of much value.

-Thanks

CPU: i7 7700k

Mobo: Gaming K3 (Gigabyte)

Previous bios: F5

Current bios: F9b

could be that when they injected the code to deal with the security flaws that they unintentionally injected some bugs with it, always a good idea to go through and take not of all the settings in your bios before updating so you can make sure if there's any change in performance you have identical settings so that it can't be some little tweak that you may have forgotten. If you did the latter refer to the first thing

You are second who has made post about this (unless you are reposting). I think it's bug in BIOS patch where some of optimization and stability tweaks have been lost due changes made for gaining more security.

I have not made a post about this, made one on tomshardware as well.

That makes sence, CPU needs more power since it's working more=Less perfomance since the CPU is working harder than before.

Right?

Right?

Not quite. BIOS updates are for interactions between mobo and rest of the hardware. They don't add any load on components, but have meaning how LLC and other tweaks work together.

Okay, well must be a bug causing my CPU to need more voltage then? And nothing I can do unless I want to go back to older BIOS (which would mean I am vulnerble to spectre) or till gigabyte fix this?

You should contact Gigabytes support. There probably will be another patch, but I don't know how long it takes them to make it.
