Asus Maximus Hero VII

I7 4790K @ 4Ghz

16GB DDR3 2133Mhz

Nvidia GTX980

So I was plugging in a fan while the system was still running (Idiot right?), and as I attempted to plug it in the whole system just shut off.

Pushing the power button or the start button on the motherboard itself didn‘t do a thing. Just the red ROG lightning lights up when I switch on the power supply (pic).

Tried several things:

-Shut off the power supply several times for a couple of minutes.

-Removed the CMOS battery for half an hour and put it back in.

-I tried another power supply, still just the ROG lightning comes on after switching the PS on.

-Removed everything plugged into the Mb, looked for bent pins, removed the Mb and put it on a box with just the 24 and 8 pin plugged in. Still the same.

...as i recall the Start button on the motherboard was allways lit up just as the ROG lights, but now it doesn‘t.

So is there any chance that I didn‘t kill my MB or is all hope lost?

most likely, you killed the motherboard.

I did the same thing with a USB header on my motherboard, and surprisingly it still works like a charm. motherboard shut off, but then booted back up with no problem (but that header doesn't work still)

You might have just shorted out something that is crucial to the computer being able to boot at all. The board isn't totally dead, but you'll have to return it.
