Hey,

with the current specs, I would say he might be able to get away with low/medium graphic settings. If I was to say what to upgrade first, it would be the graphics card. That will defo struggle and I doubt he will get decent (40-60fps) on low/medium settings.

Anything else I guess, possibly a dual kit 8GB RAM of some high performance RAM. BF4 "supposedly" can squeeze a couple more frames per second with higher clocked RAM.

All of those components are fine. He could probably play the game on the lowest settings, provided he has the latest nVidia drivers. However, if he wants to upgrade something, I would definitely tell him to upgrade the GPU. The nVidia GeForce GTX 760 is a great low price card and also, if he wanted and AMD card, the R9 270X is also an ok card for the price.

Budget please? for upgrading his current system I think he/you should get a new power supply if possible but the main concern is getting a new graphics card. The 1366 Socket is old but is still good. Sell the Geforce GTS 450 for as much as you can get it on ebay or something. And use that money to add on-top of the current budget to get a new gpu and power supply. 600watts is enough for most systems with a single graphics card whether its high end or not.

Just upgrade your gpu/psu.

What we recommend depends on where you're shopping/located.

I bet he would be able to play on low, if that is not the case it looks like the thing to upgrade is only the gpu.
