I have an old laptop that I wish to run ubuntu on. I attempted to access the bios but it required a password. I never entered a password and I checked all my documentation that came with the laptop to try and find a password for the bios but nothing appeared. Are there any programs which can help me get access to the bios or the bios password. The laptop is an acer aspire switch 10.

Thanks for the help

I've heard that if you get it incorrect 3 times a code will come up. Apparently entering this code into https://bios-pw.org/ gets you a default. Haven't tried it myself but it seems to have worked for people with similar issues.

HEADS UP, THIS ACCOUNT IS INACTIVE NOW

I'm keeping everything else the way it was for anyone who might check out my answers in future, but I won't be using LTT.

Clearing the CMOS should clear that password- you'll do that by shorting a couple pins on the motherboard, pulling the CMOS battery, or a combination of that. I'm not sure about the exact steps for that specific model, but that's how you get past a BIOS password you don't know. :)

When you open the laptop there are no pins that i can see to clear the CMOS. There is no CMOS battery that is visible.

I have considered this option but I think this will be my last resort if I cant recover the password by other means.

I'm seeing a lot of owners mention that they're facing a similar thing with the BIOS password- especially when they didn't seem to have set one in the first place. If you're able to boot into the BIOS, (for Acer it's F2 I think) try setting a Supervisor Password. It may be that you just need to give it a password to make it happy.
