PCI-E Riser Card

I apologize if this has been answered before, but I was wondering if I could use one of those PCI-E 3.0 1x to 16x Powered Riser Adapter Card to extend my graphics card for a custom build; So I could lay it flat,

or would it be better to do something else?

 

I have an  EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 FTW graphics card if that's necessary information.

You can, but if you're doing any kind of gaming I would advise strongly against it.

Use a 16x to 16x riser like this one and then figure out a way of securing your card.

That's what I was thinking, but I wasn't sure what I'd do about placement of the card having to keep it pretty straight below the motherboard. I'll more than likely just put it where it belongs and leave it be.
