New Build Planning Help

alex_jenkins

I'm planning on building a new gaming PC. My current set up sucks and I am in desperate need of an upgrade. My budget is about $600 US. I already have a GPU, the Asus GTX  1050 Ti. I need recommendations for everything else. Thanks in advance!

I'm honestly surprised that I pulled it off but you get an overclockable quad core (competing with the 7600K) and all the premium stuff that comes with a decent computer like an SSD and a really good Power Supply.

If I was going to build a computer from scratch I'd get a more powerful GPU eschewing the 8350K, but since you already bought this is a pretty good option.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

I like how this processor is a 6 core for just a little bit more

The Ryzen 5 1600 is going to be better for productivity tasks due to its 6 cores with SMT, but the i3-8350K is unrivaled in gaming performance (not that you'll notice with a 1050 Ti, so maybe that'll tip you over to the Ryzen 5).

I disagree with herman's choice of case though :P It's not very good at cooling the inside components especially in comparison to its less priced but higher end Masterbox 5 (no lite) cousin: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/zMVBD3/cooler-master-masterbox-5-white-atx-mid-tower-case-mcx-b5s2-wwnn-01

I'd like to do i a bit of light streaming as well as gaming. I think I'll go with Ryzen.

the 1600 will perform better omce you go 1070 and above, 4 cores with no HT just doesn't cut it.

I'm saying what I'm saying because of this review

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-core-i3-8350k-cpu,5304.html

There's not a lot of games in there but mostly the 8350K is beating the Ryzen 5 (not by a shit ton mind you but by a measurable margin). The 8350K is outperforming older i5s (even the 7600K) according to their last graph, though only when overclocked to 5GHz which should be doable

Interesting to say that in Hitman the Coffee i5s do take the performance crown with their 6 very fast cores.
