Hey all, looking for some PC help. A few months ago my PC started to start and fail to boot 5-30 times whenever I try to turn it on.

The fans spin up and lights turn on for about 3 seconds then it all stops and tries again multiple times. Sometimes it does this 3-5 times and sometimes it's up to 30 times. Then finally it finishes the sequence and it posts.

Anyone have any idea what is causing this? All drivers are updated, I have restored to before the problem started, and ran hard disk checks.

I think it is something to do with motherboard, but I'm not sure. Want to get more info before I buy a new mobo, processor, and ram.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like this might be a memory issue. Have you tried underclocking your memory and checking to see if the issue still occurs?

Make sure to quote me or use @PorkishPig to notify me that you replied!

@timmay7111 or trying one stick at a time, switching between all the MOBO RAM slots, seeing in which slot it does posts? (doing the same with the other stick)

*I'm guessing you have 2x8GB sticks, since you didn't point out you have 1x16GB

  • 4 weeks later...

Bumping thread. I tried changing the ram out/ using different slots but it didn't fix the issue.

Anyone have any other troubleshooting ideas or know what could cause this issue?

Really don't want to buy a bunch of new components with the way prices are lately.

Check your temps once you get it booted into windows again.

If your CPU fan isn't working properly or there's bad thermal transfer going on with your heatsink like if the paste is dried up or it's no contacting right, it will shut down while trying to boot like you're describing.
