Would it be possible to get an old Power Mac G5 and update the internals like the graphics card, cpu, etc.?

as you already know: apple stopped supporting PPC based macs with OSX 10.5 - anything newer needs an intel CPU.

you can't just take the G5 processor out and replace it with an intel CPU.

the only way to "upgrade" the CPU of a G4/G5 power mac to something that can run newer versions of OSX would be to throw all the old hardware out of the case (mainboard and everything) and casemod the crap out it to fit a modern mainboard inside.

if it is just for looks, get the 2010 - 2012 mac pro instead.

it has the same aluminium mesh design but came with intel xeon CPUs.

I really like the look of the Power Mac G5 and i love apple. I want to have an apple desktop that can run current day osx and be functional for video editing(fcpx). Would it be possible to get an old Power Mac G5 and update the internals like the graphics card, cpu, etc.? If it is possible to beef it up would there be a way to run the latest osx(via “hackintosh” method)? I did some research and apple stopped supporting the Power Macs with there software. So you can only update to about osx 10.5 or so. All the videos for upgrading hardware in a Power Mac are all out of date. Can anyone help me?

Long answer.

Maybe.

Short and sensible answer.

BY GOD NO!

No seriously. Using hackintosh software will only get you so far before you start seeing some hardware incompatibility errors. The Power Mac G5 is most certainly incapable of tasks like editing HD video. The GPU is not only s**t compared to today, but it boasts a clock of 2Ghz and 2 cores, if you are really stubborn, PM me.

Also, Macs are incredibly stubborn at modifying internals, hence you will not be able to do it. A Mac likes what a Mac likes.

You will not be able to update any of the internals of a Powermac G5 high enough to do anything with modern software for the reasons that you gave, no longer supported.

You can not discuss hackintosh methods or uses here on this forum.

Take the Powermac G5 case, gut it, and put a PC in it. That is somehting you could do to at least give you the look of the G5.
