fast sync vs adaptive sync?

is there any disadvantage to using fast sync over adaptive sync other than that your graphics card uses more power?

Adaptive V-Sync is just normal V-Sync, which turns off if your framerate is below your monitor's refresh rate.

 

Fast Sync is V-Sync with reduced latency.

Fast Sync will offer better latency over Adaptive V-Sync. 

 

Fast Sync basically renders as many frames as the GPU possibly can, and drops the ones that aren't required. The result is improvement with input lag(it's gone), but power draw goes up because the GPU is working as hard as it can. Adaptive V-Sync will enable and disable V-Sync based on your frame rate, which sounds all fine and dandy, but if you're watching a cutscene in a video game, or a game is locked to 30FPS, you might encounter tearing.

Fast Sync makes the GPU render as many frames as possible, and drops the excess. That's per NVIDIA's own description in the NVIDIA Control Panel.
