Hey guys, I was hoping for some advice on changing the thermal compound on my Dell Inspiron 7559.

It's almost 2 years old and I game on it literally every day. As summer has come along and made it actual hell in North QLD (Australia) I've noticed my Laptop has started thermal throttling and I'd really to keep my temps down as much as possible to prevent this. I've heard a lot of people say the the factory paste for most laptops isn't great and with my toasty temps on my laptop I was hoping to improve my Cooling performance which Is why I'm wondering which thermal paste I should go with and any additional thoughts/suggestions/advice that you may be able to provide. I'm also wondering since I'd be re-pasting the GPU as well since it shares the same space as the CPU how would I go about re-pasting the VRAM. I've watched a few people re-paste GPUs and saw that there were little thermal pads that go on the VRAM chips and was wondering If I may encounter the same thing on a mobile GPU and what I should do in that case.

Thanks for the help.

I use NT-H1 and it works pretty well. Just make sure that the cooler is evenly mounted since that makes a bigger difference than the paste.

I'm going t o go with Arctic Silver Thermal Compound along with their remover. But I only just realized this but what thickness in thermal pads would you recommend since I'm going to also throw new thermal pads onto the GPU's VRAM or should I just leave the stock ones. I do usually have a +400mhz overclock on the VRAM which might help bring down the thermal footprint by maybe a degree or two.

Edit: For the Thermal Pads I have the option of buying 0.5mm thick or 1mm thick pads and are unsure to which ones would be better for the VRAM modules.

Try to go with the same thickness as the stock pads if you're going to replace them. If you're not sure and the stock ones are intact, just leave them be.
