RX580 Infinite Repair Loop

Varien101

Hey all, I've got new PC parts trickling in and my RX580 came in the mail earlier today.  Decided to hook it up to my current PC to make sure it works and I've lost 9 years of data =(

Foxconn Rennassaince MOBO

I7 965 CPU

R270 Sapphire GPU

500 GB HD

Windows 10

I popped the 580 in and booted it up.  Went through all the normal boot stuff but instead of going to the desktop it went to an "windows repair" screen.  This persisted through numerous restarts.  Putting the 270 back in allowed me to get through the repair screen to a default blue screen with other repair options.  I went through most of them and was finally forced to "reset" the computer to a default state.

So I took that opportunity to install the 580 drivers, shutdown and put 580 back in.  another repair loop.  Had to reset the computer again with the 270 installed.

The 580 uses an 8 pin connector.  used a 6 + 2 pin connector from a 900W power supply.  Also tried moving the card through different PCIE slots.  As I understand it my MOBO has 8 and 16 pin slots, with the orange being 16.

Could anybody tell me...  what could be the problem?  All my core components are 9 years old now, but I don't see how that could be an issue.

I meant the components of your pc :)

cpu, ram, psu etc.

If you have no backup there is unfortunately no way to get your data back :(

(Btw don’t forget to quote someone!)

I7 965 CPU

8GB ram

900W psu

Foxconn Rennassaince MOBO

Windows 10

Edit:  I am bummed about the data but I'll get over that.  I'm more interested in whether the new RX580 is a bad card and if that is what's wrong here.  I'd rather send it back now, VS when I have the rest of my parts.

Does your system work normally with the 270? I have a feeling it’s the PSU that is ‘too old’ for the rx580. The rx580 uses about 75watt more under load then the r9 270.

900W PSU is brand new.   It's the first part that failed which prompted me to put together a new computer.

900W should be MORE then enough shouldn't it?

And yes it works fine with the 270.
