So almost every time I stick my macbook pro (2012) in my backpack and move around it'll shut off because there's a 4 year old hard drive in it...Should I just try and deal with it for the next 2 years and deal with slow boot times and 750gb of space or get a 250gb ssd with christmas money or later next year?聽 Space isn't an issue, I use like 50gb+the operating system on my current drive, but is there anything I can do about the shutting off when I put it in my bag?

I'd get an SSD if you need to throw your laptop in a bag constantly. Sure, you may need more external storage to make up for the lost space, but that's fine.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT聽(1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

yeah, you should at least let it go to sleep before throwing it in your bag

if you really can't getting an SSD is a better option

he said he doesn't use that much space so i doubt he'd need an external storage device
