Windows update issues. help me please...

okay, so my Windows 10 VM, that i use to run MS office on linux, has crashed i think. it was trying to install the 1709 update, and it was on "preparing to install updates: 8%". i then clicked shutdown on the VM, and it started with the "getting windows ready" thing. it's been on that for about an hour now, with no progress. my cpu cores are touching 80-90% usage, so it is doing something still.

this stuff is why i switched to Linux..

problem is, i need to use MS office. i need the VM back pretty much now. so can anyone help?

EDIT: i can't suspend the VM, i get a error from VMware that says "virtual machine cannot be suspended while it's busy"

If you have the time, try letting the VM keep running for about a day and if its still stuck i think the best and easiest way is to force shutdown the VM and make a new one.

Please mention or quote me if you want a response. :)

well i was lucky. after another 30 mins i decided enough was enough. i used the xkill command in linux, and shut the thing down. i then rebooted my machine, restarted the vm and it came right up. i just paused updates in Windows. the thing isn't connected to the network anyway.
