Looking for free video editing software

I need to edit a short video of school and i just need a free program to cut and splice clips together. I have no idea what to get, this isn't my thing.

How easy is this to just drop videos and edit them? It looks a bit over the top

I have not invested much time but you can certainly watch a 20 min tutorial on basic editing and be good to go without messing with other stuff (only 20 minutes and being able to do basic edits for a lifetime is a bargain) and then if you desire you can learn more advanced stuff at the benefit of having a nice UI. Many super basic video editing programs are very plain and super simple, I tried many and disliked them all.
