OK, so I have around $60 left in my "Christmas budget", but I don't know what to get. A lot of people recommend SSDs, but my HDD is plenty fast for me (don't judge). I kinda want a cheap Android tablet to mess around with custom ROMs and shit (I was thinking an 8GB Amazon Fire 7). Thoughts? Anything else you'd suggest? Keep in mind this is Candian dollars, not American. Thanks!

It depends. I would go for the SSD as I am not interested in tablets. But if you are happy with a HDD then I see no harm in a tablet, you could get both seconds hand but there is a chance that they would both be terrible.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

If you don't already have one, I'd get the SSD. Trust me, you'll see a lot of benefits. Also, those Kindle's aren't really powerful at all and the verison of "Android" is super stripped down and Amazon-ish.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

I have one in my laptop. It's nice, but not something I would pay a lot for. I'll stick with an HDD until prices come down.

I'd get the ssd, too but only because I wouldn't have any use for a cheapo tablet...

If you want to have something to mess around with sure Y not. I have an old athlon pc that I use for stuff like that and an ultra-low powered board with a celeron if I need a system to play around with.

It depends if you want to go second hand or not. But some general advice is just get the most powerful one you can.

You can have the celeron board haha. Cost me like 70 bucks (needs ram though and a psu and an hdd). But its surprisingly capable. Dunno how much shipping over the rainbow is though :/

Probably not second hand since the Candian used market sucks (or at least in my area).

Well, it would actually be to London, Ontario. I'd half to talk it over with my parents if you really were OK with doing it, though.

Haha, no worries ;)

Someone on here told me there are no import fees on electronics. Not trying to change your mind since I'd do the same thing, but just saying :)
