Marvell Storage Controllers

I have an Asus X99A-II with a bunch of drives. So many drives that I added in a Vantec UGT-ST644R storage controller that I had, with a Marvell storage controller on board. It worked fine for several weeks, with all drives showing up, then abruptly stopped working. The motherboard has two storage controllers, an Intel controller and a secondary Marvell controller. Could the two Marvell controllers be fighting with each other?
