Will my board support this?

I haven't built a rig in about 6 years so I missed a lot of new tech ....I just bought the Asus TUF Z370 Plus gaming mobo. It has 2 m.2 drives and ...can obviously take an ssd drive via sata...blah blah blah....I'm trying to figure out if which M.2 drives I can buy....I'm researching a lot but can my board take Samsung 960 EVO Series - 500GB NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD (MZ-V6E500BW)....I guess it's the term nvme i'm confused over....If so...great...or perhaps another option if you have one.....Thanks very much for your time members

Both of the M.2 slots on that board support either M.2 SATA SSDs or M.2 NVMe SSDs. 

 

It basically supports every M.2 SSD, including the 960 EVO.

The specifications say both m.2 slots can work in both SATA or pci-e x4  (nvme) mode.

 

nvme is pci-e x4 and booting directly through pci-e mode (available in the m.2 slot) and it's a more modern communication protocol" between drive and pc compared to sata, more suited for SSDs.

well I have a 8th gen I5 on order...unlocked version....but for memory...should I go with an m.2 ...just a ssd card......i'm bad with choices lol

I would go with the normal SATA SSD... you will not notice a huge increase in speeds on normal tasks, and it is cheaper.

Yeah your probably right....i'll be playing a few games but i'm not a hardcore gamer. a little Warcraft....some overwatch and maybe some star citizen in the future...Thanks very much for helping me out...appreciated

ok so I grabbed a SAMSUNG 850 EVO 2.5" 500GB SATA III 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-75E500B/AM from newegg.ca ...this should do me fine?
