value ram vs gaming ram

i try to learn as much as i can about PC gaming. Still don't get this one, old days RAM was just RAM. Is there really a difference? does RAM really get that hot for normal users that need a cooler (i assume the shroud is for colling)

the heatsinks on ram are normally just for aesthetics, don't make much difference to the temps.

Gaming ram generally isn't different accept it runs at higher speeds (this is only a benefit if your motherboard supports the higher speeds) and its stays cooler as it has a heatsink on it

PC: Ryzen 7 2700 | RX 5700 XT | Asus Prime B450-PLUS | CoolerMaster Masterwatt 600W | 32GB Corsair Vengeance 3200MHz RAM | 512GB NVME SSD & 14TB combined HDD | macOS 14 Ventura, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and WIndows 10 Pro x64

Laptop: MacBook Pro 15" 2015 | i7-4870HQ | R9 M370X | 16gb | 1tb SSD

iPhone 13 Pro Max | 256GB | iOS 16.5 with Dopamine 2 + Trollstore 2

"Gaming RAM" are generally sold in higher frequencies (e.g. DDR4-3200 vs standard DDR4-2133/2400). Theoretically that means higher bandwidth (e.g. your CPU can fetch data from memory faster).

Whether that translates into a noticeable performance difference in regular use cases is very application dependent (and even then, not necessarily worth the price differential).

Not unless there is zero airflow across the sticks. DDR4 memory modules are rated to operate until ~80-85C... so unless your RAM sticks are burning hot to touch, I wouldn't be worried.

Ram is ram, get the cheapest stick at the speed you want, brand doesn’t matter

I agree with this.

ok i got it, because i never looked at the higher speeds i never noticed there is only value RAM for the lower clock speeds. So no point in buying like gaming RAM for speeds like 2333 or 2666 for example. got it

gamery flash ram is normally faster than budget Ram, but apart from that and might have a heatsink and black PSB which is just for good looks. You only need fast ram for Ryzen, but it still does matter hugely. Ram is Ram.
