For one it's not a series of motherboards, but a size classification.

 

There's standard ATX, which is the size most custom computers are built with. As a step-down, there's micro-ATX, which is maybe 15% smaller, and is found in lower budget builds. For a step up, you'll find E-ATX, for the super mega builds but isn't THAT much better. Then there's the mini-ITX form factor for the smallest of PCs. It's cheaper than ATX (duh, it's small) but more expensive than Micro-ATX since it has to cram so much into that size. 

 

Sometimes manufacturers make custom motherboards but there's no form factor classification for that.

You can buy laptop motherboards, they are usually smaller and weird shapes, not just a square they are like rectangle and can have weird PCB boards sticking out and shit

Ye true. Im also looking at those. The dell e6430 motherboard looks promising but i need something that can support an egpu.
