Just recently acquired a Sager NP8652 for pretty cheap and decent mobile gaming (980m with a 4720hq). It has two regular sata slots, and then two m.2 slots, one of which supports pcie drives, and the other which supports 3g or sata drives. Couple quick questions about this setup:

1. The laptop runs an HM87 chipset, which has PCIE 2.0 running at either x1, x2, or x4, with a max of 8 lanes. I'd like to take advantage of the PCIE speed available, and was looking at a 960 evo. Would this be overkill? I don't want to spend the extra dollar if I'm not going to see the benefits due to a limitation of the chipset.

2. The manual states that between the two m.2 slots, I can either have one PCIE drive or two SATA drives (as factory options). Doesn't say anything about using one PCIE drive and one 3G broadband card. Would this be an issue?

3. I'm totally clueless in the world of adding mobile broadband to a laptop, and would some input. Anyone have suggestions on cards/plans? Would I be able to put a 4g card in there?

depends on what you do with the computer. Might be overkill, might be just what the dr. ordered.

I meant overkill more in the sense of will I actually be able to fully utilize the speed this drive is capable of, or is there a cheaper alternative that would offer the maximum amount of power I'd be able to utilize. The laptop will be used for general purposes, mobile gaming, maybe some light video editing and audio production

The pcie bandwidth of 1000mb/s won't really be tangible over the 600mb/s of Sata 3?

Not for what you're doing...
