I'm looking into upgrading my gaming PC and was wondering if there is anything new that won't fit. Also happy to recieve recomendations on other components for around the same price.

What I already have

Case: cooler master haf 912 adv. limited edit https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-Advance-Tower-RC-912A-KWN1/dp/B004EWYSF8

PSU: Corsair CX 750M, 750W PSU https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Bronze-Certified-Modular-CP-9020061-NA/dp/B00ALK3KEM

Motherboard: ASUS P9X79 LE https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-P9X79-2011-Intel-Motherboard/dp/B008DWGYQG/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

CPU: Intel Core i7-3820 https://www.amazon.com/Intel-i7-3820-Quad-Core-Processor-Cache/dp/B006WVVA28

RAM: Kingston DDR3 HyperX blu 1600MHz 16GB https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Modules-1600MHz-KHX1600C10D3B1K2-16G/dp/B007TTEHMW

Cooler: (stock)

GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 6GB ROG STRIX https://www.amazon.com/GeForce-STRIX-Ready-Graphic-STRIX-GTX1060-O6G-GAMING/dp/B01IPVSN1S

Storage: Seagate® Desktop SSHD 1TB and a Seagate Barracuda® 1TB

I also have a DVD writer

What I'm considering

Intel Core i7-7700K https://www.amazon.com/Intel-Desktop-Processor-i7-7700K-BX80677I77700K/dp/B01MXSI216

ASUS ROG Strix Z270F https://www.amazon.com/STRIX-Z270F-GAMING-LGA1151-Motherboard/dp/B01N6E5DGE

Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000MHz 16GB https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-3000MHz-Desktop-Memory/dp/B0134EW7G8

I'm also looking for a liquid cooler so I'm hoping thermals won't be a problem.

I'm norwegian if that helps with checking and such, thanks in advance.

is there going to be that big of a difference that it won't be worth with 7th gen?

There is a large enough gaming and perspective performance given that consumer 8th gen is 6 cores not 4 cores EDIT: for (technically) $20 more (msrp) 8th gen is a much better chip, but seeing as how 9th gen has been mentioned (10 nm processes) you could also argue that 8th gen is not a good buy right now

typically you don't see many upgrades done in this manner with only replacing the cpu and ram type

I don't think it will yield much of a performance increase but it should be compatible.

That is because i got a new GPU not to long ago

So these components won't last me long is what you're saying?

They will last but price/performance will continue to increase as long as the i7 x700k doesn't surpass $400.  If you are planning to get new chips now, get 8th gen, just for ~$50 more, you can get z370.

well I'm saying you'd be spending quite a bit for not much of an upgrade in terms of overall speed , it'll be newer gen but not that much faster.

cpu dependent games would start to see struggle on sandy bridge-e chips

from what i've seen , the 7700k isn't a whole lot faster. I suppose it depends on what people consider an upgrade these days , typically if it's not at least 50-100% faster it really shouldn't even be considered worthwhile.

Don't get the 7700K. For 60 FPS gameplay, the 3820 should be enough. You could just get a cooler and overclock it. You could reuse the cooler in future upgrades, it wouldn't be too expensive (nice air coolers cost ~6-700 kr), and you would increase the performance. If you still feel the need to upgrade, you can reuse the very decent CPU cooler.

:)

well i do ofcourse want to upgrade to a 144 hz monitor, but that is not a primary upgrade

thats the 8700 not the 7700

but even so I still wouldn't really bother with it as 50% is more of a starting point for an upgrade. Ideally it really should be 100% to get the most out of whatever you got.

The 8600K costs 2600 kr, a decent Z370 motherboard costs ~15-1600 kr, so it would be a bit less expensive, perform better, and have something to upgrade to.

You will need a CPU cooler, as unlocked Intel CPUs don't come with a cooler

So basically at the end of it i should pretty much go for the coffee gen and a water cooler now instead of what i had in mind?

Yes, Coffee Lake. The extra cores will help, especially in the future. Alternatively, the 8700 costs 500kr more than the 8600K, but has hyperthreading.

Not a fan of water coolers. Less reliable, noisier, and don't perform that much better than air coolers. The 280mm ones usually perform a bit better.

The Cryorig H5 for 550kr is a very decent cooler at a fairly reasonable price. The NH-D15 and Dark Rock Pro 3 cost 800kr, and the Cryorig R1 costs 900kr, if you want the highest end air coolers.

The cheapest 280mm AiO costs 1200 kr, and i don't think the HAF 912 has much water cooling support.

Black Friday is next week, so you may want to wait for that

I'm doing my shopping on komplett.no and their sale starts this saturday, which is why i asked today. But if you insist air cooling is a better option then i will surely check it out.

Komplett has decent customer support, but they are usually one of the most expensive stores, sometimes by 10-30%. I tend to look at prisjakt for prices.
