Leaving for basic soon

I recently joined the U.S. Air Force and I'm going to basic training tomorrow. My question comes in when i get back from training and technical school i want to buy a laptop because i'm an avid gamer. Because this is the largest tech community i frequent i figured id ask the hive mind their thoughts and opinions. Thanks in advance.

What is your budget? Also, how long are you away for on training? If it's a prolonged period of time, the laptop market may have changed (even only if a little). A model recommended now may be discontinued or replaced by the time you come to buy one.

I would wait a bit before making my purchase.  Being retired from the AF, I know that basic at Lackland is six weeks (unless something changed that I don't know about) and finish your tech school too.  What career field are you going into and how long is the school?  You will be able to take some leave-enroute during your travel to your first duty station so that will give you some time but what I would do is wait until I got to my first duty station and then take some leave (two weeks considering that by the time you get out of basic, etc. Christmas will be right around the corner).

 

Get to your first duty station, then take the two weeks and make a trip to see your family if possible.  During that time is when I would get my pooter.  When you first get to your first station, you are going to be very busy.
