Hi, I recently bought a new case and an ESD Band. Unfortunately my house is basically all carpet. Is it safe to wear the ESD Band, connect it to the fan grill on my power supply and transfer my pc to the new case? My desk top is wood. Thanks :D

I would recommend building the PC on your desk if there's enough room, not wearing wool clothing, and not touching any of the pins on the electronics.

also if you connect it to the psu make sure the psu is plugged into the wall BUT TURNED OFF, or bad things gonna happen..

With the new case there is a shroud on the PSU which can't be removed so how do you suggest I ground myself

You can insert a screw into the case and clip the ESD band to that.  As long as you're electrically grounded to the system and avoid building static electricity in your clothing, you'll be alright.

Am I able to stand on the carpet while using the ESD? Aslong as I don't move to much I should be fine right?

Yes, you'll be fine.  A hard floor would be better, but static won't build up from the floor if you're not moving your feet around the carpet.  Grounding yourself to the case and having that grounded to the wall through the power cable on the power supply will also prevent ESD that could be dangerous to the components.  Also make sure to handle any exposed PC boards by the edges since the PC board ground is usually around the perimeter (so components are less likely to be affected by any possible ESD).

Would you recommend removing the PSU first, then grounding myself, removing components and transferring them, then putting in the PSU last?

If you have the PSU in place and plugged into the wall (but switched off), you'll be better grounded.  You can also do it without the PSU, but it adds an extra layer of protection by being grounded to the wall.

So just keep the PSU plugged into the wall but turned off. Does it NEED to be in the case?

If it's in the case, then the case will also be grounded to the wall.  If the PSU is left out, there's no need to have it plugged in because it won't be grounding the case (what you need most is to have the same charge running through yourself as the case so there's no discharge when placing components).

ahh ok. Just thinking because the case has a shroud which cant be removed. Maybe I can find a work around now lol
