Been doing some searching on the forum and I'm seeing that the i5-7600k is basically an i3-8350k. I like to overclock. Simply put I'm literally caught between my cpu choice. I will be rocking a ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 6GB as my GPU. What should I go with for my cpu? I only need to do 1080p gaming. I will be buying a 144hz monitor as well and my new rig will have 16GB of ram and a 650 watt psu. How far can I push the 8350k vs the 7600k? I will be using a hyper 212 evo. Thanks for your advice :)

yeah they are almost identical.. and you don'e need more than 500W PSU for all this (it's still way overkill and you save yourself the money)

Primary System

  • CPU
    Ryzen R6 5700X
  • Motherboard
    MSI B350M mortar arctic
  • RAM
    32GB Corsair RGB 3600MT/s CAS18
  • GPU
    Zotac RTX 3070 OC
  • Case
    kind of a mess
  • Storage
    WD black NVMe SSD 500GB & 1TB samsung Sata ssd & x 1TB WD blue & x 3TB Seagate
  • PSU
    corsair RM750X white
  • Display(s)
    1440p 21:9 100Hz

7600K and 8350K are similar in terms of OC, but I would say go for the 8350K with Z370 chipset for future upgradability to i5 8600K or i7 8700K.

How far you can push depends on your luck a.k.a. silicon lottery, no one can tell. You won the lottery for your 2500K though.

it can overclock to roughly the same, maybe a bit more. Ive seen alot of OC's on the coffee lake chips hit the 5.0GHz so if you get a good one you might be able to achieve that, where as if you lose silicon lottery a bit and not get an oustanding chip, you wont be able to hit that high but could still be within the 4.7-5.0GHz range. Both the 8350k and 7600k are pretty much the same, so for future upgradability go with Z370 platform and years down the road pick up a used 8700k to toss in it as an upgrade.
