Okay so I want to build a gaming PC but im stuck on which CPU to choose - i5 8400 or i5 8600k.

 

I dont intend to overclock as it is my first build so my question to you all would be Does the faster core clock speed between the 2 CPUs really effect gaming. If so, how much would I be effected by going for the 8400?

My personal PC:

CPU: Intel - Core i5 8600k  Cooler: CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Evo  Motherboard: Asus Prime Z370-P RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB 3000MHz DDR4 Storage: San Disk SSD Plus 240 GB + WD Caviar Blue 1TB  Video Card: Gigabyte GTX 1070 Windforce OC 8GB Case: Phanteks Eclipse P400S Tempered Glass ATX  PSU: Corsair CX550M 80+ Bronze Certified Semi Modular PSU.

 

Peripherals:

I’d say with a GPU under a 1070 you would hardly notice any bottlenecking from either CPU. Strictly for gaming I would recommend the 8400, since you won’t be over clocking the price to performance will be better (however most mb on new type seem to be made for overclocking meaning more expensive)

I would say about 5-10% performance in favor of 8600K at stock clock.

Get the 8600k.  You may not want to overclock now, but you may/should in the future.
