Hi. I have an EKWB custom loop with this water pump. The pump was mounted as specified by manufacturer, horizontally, using an uv blue liquid from EKWB. The pump was running all the time at it's lower speed, as the CPU is very cold (30-45 degrees C in load), so it was not abused in any way.

Everything was running fine for about 6 months, but two days ago I've noticed the pump was not working at all after system startup.

After a few restarts and connect/disconnect from PSU the pump has started, but today It had the same problem. I've tried 4-5 restarts and again to disconnect and reconnect the pump, but it was not working. So I thought to shake a little the system and kick the pump (with the system turned off). After power on the pump was started normally!

What do you think, the pump is dying or it was just some air or debris stuck inside it? Thanks!

Had the same problem with the same pump and it got worse as time went by.

I also could start with a tap on the back.

Ended up changing it

But what could be the reason? After all is just a motor with some blades, no?

It is also considered " high reliability, high-pressure industrial pump, featuring a 50,000 hour MTBF"!

Take it apart to check the bearing and impeller but it sounds like potentially the motor is starting to go.

I think I should do this, but is kind of hard to disassemble the system and get the pump out.

Anyway, how often a pump like this can fail? I have invested in this model precisely to not have this kind of problems :(

It's hard to determine until you check to see if it's an issue with pump itself, another problem which is common is a pinched power cable.

Yes, I think I will buy EK-XRES 100 Revo D5 PWM in order to have 2 pumps, if this one (DDC) will work fine in the future.

Also today the pump has started by shaking it a few more times as "usual" and I heard some clicks before it started! I think it might be some dirt inside it, but for the long run I also think that 2 pumps in series will work better :)

I have replaced the pump with D5 model. After a few leaks from a wrong placed fitting on the radiator now everything works ok. I have reused the same coolant (blue uv EK-Ekoolant), but I also added some distilled water and a little bit of EK-Ekoolant Clear Concentrate. I hope that is ok and I will not spend another 3-4 hours changing the liquid until I will probably add the GPU into the loop :D
