Allright, so this has been going on for quite some time now. While playing games, or even just sitting at idle, watching YouTube,... sometimes my pc will simply freeze. I can still move the mouse, but right clicking does not show the box you normally get, clicking the windows key to restart does not show the start menu, pressing the power button does nothing, I have to hard reset the system to get it to reboot.

Often this goes paired with me hearing a single click coming from the case, where the drives are located. SMART values for the 4 drives are all good though, and I am not experiencing any system slowdowns, writing/reading to the disks give no problems either (2 new SSDs, 2 HDD's)

Ctr-shift-esc still brings up task manager, but for example the resource monitor stays empty and shows all HDD and SSD at 0, and the ram and cpu usage at the last value, no updates are being done. The processes don't load either.

The clock also stops working, it just stays stuck at the time the freeze happened.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

-Windows 10

-GTX1080

-i7 4770k

-16GB ram

-msi z87-gd65 motherboard

If you have an overclock, turn that down. And maybe reinstall windows (make a bootable USB drive with the installation tool from the windows website and boot from it on your system and select repair windows).

Hmm, I had MSI's OC Genie running for a 0.5Ghz boost, switched that off, but it just happened again. The PC bogged down and subsequently stopped reacting to the start menu click and right-mouse input again... the windows OS is still pretty fresh, so I am not sure if that would solve much.

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again.
