Damaged XSPC X2O 750 Pump/Res, so mad :-(

Hey guys,

I just wanted to share my bad experience with this pump/res combo. Ghost I really should have listened to you... :-)

I will add some pictures in a few minutes so that you can see what happened:

Directly above the Drainport there is a small plastic inlet. (I don't even know what this is for...) This piece of plastic had an O-Ring in it and it cracked. The pump was running for 3 Month! in the Rig of my wife and today there was a lot of fluid under the Computer so I checked the Res on the front and saw there was a lot of fluid missing. I checked everything and found this small Crack on the backside which leaked slowly.

I am so mad right now, we are both in our holidays and now I can order another pump and res and again work on the Computer... arghhl.

And I actually wanted to play some awesome games with her, since we both don't have a lot of time for gaming besides holidays.

This is why I tell everyone to stay well clear of pump/res combos. You always want to go for a res + pump and put that pump as low as you can so if it fails in anyway it leaks onto the floor and not your pc :)

did anything get damaged or are you a lucky person? haha

I had one of my EKWB 360 RAD's randomly leak as well and I happened to notice it when a single drop of fluid hit a small serial sticker on one of my old 680gtx's (very lucky) although all good coolant is non conductive so unless you bathe your hardware in it. no harm should happen.

I was never a huge friend of pump/res combos... not saying they are all bad, but I always use them separatly to place the pump as low as I can and get the res far away for critical components.

But on the pictures it looks like that you just have to deal with a broken sealing plug. Should be easily replaceable.

nope nothing got damaged cause water found its way in a small rins down on the front from the bay to the front res and went straight out of the casefront. Everything works fine, now I am really thinking of a new case for her, Obsidian 750D and a decent D5 Pump

This is not a Plug, it is sort of a Plastic seal which seperates the res from the outer blockform. It cannot be replaced. The hole thing is cracked if u look inside. I will send it back to the retailer and let it be replaced but I definitely wont use it again.

Oh ok well that´s bad indeed. And you wrote that you just had it for three months...

Hopefully you get replacement when you RMA it.

BTW I´ve got a Corsair Obsidian 900d... it is just perfect for working with a water cooling and the 750d as well :).

Its just the Small Rig of my wife so she gets a 750D, to be honest I wanted to build a rig for me in a 900D but it is really to big for me. The 750D will actually be my next case too. Well well well...so it seems like I will spend my next few hours on finding pump, Res and case ;-)

Yeah the 900d is a monster... but hehe it´s a lovely one :D .

Finding the components is fun :) I like that because ordering all the new shiny stuff makes me happy lol.

For reference, I use a Swiftech MCP655 variable pump (D5) and a Bitspower 150 res.

You should change the title to include the pump/res combo name. So this thread comes up when people search for reviews on the pump. Otherwise it will just get lost.

As you probably have a bit of money now for the pump you should consider the PWM version of the D5. There are a couple of these around. You can set a fan curve for these so they only ramp up when needed.

Are you going to go with a bay res or a tube res now? Are you going to be going for a pump/res combo?

You should also e-mail XSPC customer support to ask them about the problem. They will probably RMA the pump/res for you, which you can then sell on eBay (unless you insist on sticking with it of course).

Feel free to PM for any water-cooling questions. Check out my profile for more ways to contact me.

Well I want a D5 as u said of course pwm and I want a tube res. If possibel a combination that fits and maybe is sold as a package together.

Can you give me any advice Ghost? Do you have any suggestions about such a package? I don't care about the brand.

I thought about this:

and then I need something to mount this somewhere...hmmm

XSPC just told me to handle this with the retailer. I was complaining after a weak about the rattling noise of the pump and they told me it is air. well after drain and refill etc, this horrible noise was still there so I really think this is just a f****** Product, to be honest and I am really mad about it.

Any D5 pump fits with any D5 accessories. You will have more luck finding a PWM pump separately as it a far "rarer" product, if you really want to go for one.

Most people opt for the bitspower pump top and res combo but the EK one is just as good, koolance also make a tube res + D5 combo. Go with what you think looks best.

well I will stick to the D5 from EK with the 140 res. My problem is since she uses a stripped Fractal R3 I do not know where to mount it, It should sit as deep as Possible. I do not have any hard drive cage in it so i guess I will use some velcro and mount it to the bottom. The D5 Uniholder sucks cause i can't mount it anywere...

any other suggestions?

Small Update:

The Thing that broke out with the O-Ring is the inlet for the LED lighting. This was the only plexi part. And for me it seems that the crack came from to high water temperatures, even if GPU never got above 50°C, the CPU did and I do not have a temperature sensor in it. (cause i just read that maximum water temp for this combo is 50° Celcius)

Alright, new Loop, new Pump, new Res...unbelievable how quiet this D5 Pump runs. (Didn't know it was an XSPC branded Pump EK is using on this one. I set it manually to Speed "3" so it has about 3500rpm and I can't here it out of the case.

Loop almost finished:

post-37174-0-88378700-1386866671_thumb.j

Though the Temperatures are about 10°C less than with the XSPC Pump/Res Combo I still think they are a bit high.

BF4 after 2 hours of gameplay, room temperature 22°C:

CPU: 75°C (i5-3570 @ 3.8GHz)

GPU: 65°C (GTX 780 @Stock)

Don't get me wrong, it is nice to only have 3 silent operating 120mm Fans and there are no Fans rumping up and down and though the temperatures are about 20°C cooler than I had with stock aircooling, I think they are still too high.

Maybe add another Radiator? Or really switch to a 750D and buy bigger rads.
