Hello there people!

So I plan to upgrade my PC at the start of the next year, I already have a good GPU and I don't think that I'm gonna change it cause it leaves me more space in my tight budget.

What I plan to do is mainly play games, and i like when my games looks crisp :D

Sometimes i will stream just for my friends if they want to... so just "heavy" gaming and casual streaming.

My current location is in Denmark, and the parts that they have are mostly only from the big companies like Corsair, Gigabyte, etc..

My budget is around 1400$

The rig is this:

MOBO: MSI Z370 Gaming Pro Carbon

CPU: Intel Core i5-8400

CPU C: NZXT Kraken X52 (this is a maybe/later/I know I dont need it buuuttt it't shinyyyyyy)

GPU: Gigabyte Gtx 970 (I have this one)

RAM: G.Skill TridentZ RGB DDR4-3000 C15 DC  16GB

PSU: RM750x 750w

HDD: WD BLUE 3TB

SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" SATA III 500GB

PC CASE: Corsair Carbide 400C

The thing is, I would like to ask you for some suggestions cause i'm totally out of form with the new technology.

1. I heard that some cpu's work better with certain MHz, so what's the case in this one. And why it 3000MHz cheaper than 2400MHz.

2. Will I have problems with the rams rgb cause i don't have an asus mobo, cause it's not synced with the MSI  rgb driver. I saw a lot of people posting that they have problems with it.

3. Maybe some recommendations for the PSU and memory storage.

4. Yes I want my pc to shine so much that my neighbors cant sleep at night!

5. Any other advice is welcomed!!!

Ty for reading and taking your time to help me out!

Lol give me little bit it's gonna take a while to type out a good answer

1.) Back in the day, life was simple. Faster RAM = more money... and that was all.

Then Ryzen happened.

A detailed overview can be seen here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_Yt4vSZKVk

TL;DR:

It matters no more than a little bit, it affects the Red team slightly more than the Blue team, and after 3200MHz, the price increase outruns the performance increase quickly. So get 3200 MHz, or thereabouts.

As for the cost, that must be a combination of two things: 1, the worldwide shortage of memory modules causing weird fluctuations in price and 2, the fact that you're looking at the Denmark market. I can tell you that on Newegg here in the States, the 2400MHz kit of the 16gb TridentZ RGB is $179, and the 3000MHz kit is $192

2.) This whole "Controllable RGB lights on RAM" thing... Even though it's SUPER dope af and adds at LEAST 10fps... is a complete ghetto hack orchestrated by G.skill and Asus and it's a miracle it works at all. Without spewing a paragraph of electrical nonsense, on Asus motherboards, it works... most of the time. Non-Asus motherboards... It most likely won't. If you want the sextastic RAM, avoid the headache and stick with an Asus board. I would recommend finding one that is very popular and has a good track record of successful RGB RAM integration. My recommendation would be the Asus PRIME Z370-A. Mainstream, reliable, good price, Z370, RGB RAM. What's not to love? https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/PRIME-Z370-A/

3.) As far as the PSU goes, anything that says "80 plus Bronze" or better on the side and is 650w or above will be more than enough for your build now and future upgrading to 250w GPUs and overclocking. As this is a higher budget build focused on aesthetics, I might consider paying a little more for something that has a semi or full-modular design, and a nice wrap on the cables. The RX 750w you have already picked out looks like a perfect candidate to me. Not too expensive, but it still has the creature comforts of a nice piece of kit.

The general guideline for RAM is >16gb these days. Because of the current cost of memory modules, I'd say get the 16gb kit now, and leave two slots open to populate in the future when you need it and prices are more stable.

5.) Because you're getting an OC ready motherboard and a water cooler, I HIGHLY recommend bumping up to the unlocked i5-8600k from the 8400. Having the ability to overclock will grab another year or two from the life cycle of your CPU when it comes time to replace, plus it's fun.

Don't get that MSI board, get an equivalently price Asus/gigabyte/asrock one - full stop

8400 is an awesome choice of CPU, though if an X52 is on the table I would get an 8700k

RMX is a great line but not at all necessary, a 550-750G2 or similar will cost way less and for all purposes perform the exact same

400C is a nice case but I would check out

  • Meshify C
  • 460x (for dat rgb)
  • Enthoo Pro M
  • Focus G

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

Ty for the tip!

The cpu is price wise out of my league... and the x52.... it's probably not gonna happen soon. So i will not buy a cpu to mach my cooler, but the other way around. :D

The cases are nice. I'm a big fan of corsairs design and products so i already looked in the 460x but knowing my eating habits i know there would be mayo all over the case haha

Ty for the answer one more time!

You didn't disappoint my friend! :D

1. Yeah. I'm glad that Intel got to the point that they made something better than Ryzen cause i could not bother with all the stuff that surrounds it... in the technical point of view. Yeah the price goes up 10$ 3000 to 3200mhz so i guess its not a problem... but when you look up for something higher, damn the price is x3 times more....

2. As I'm looking for something that shines i was first looking at the strix line but then i saw that they don't have a front usb port on the mobo and i don't understand why. And I NEED my usb ports. I was looking at the Prime z370a before but the looks of it just don't appeal to me... I guess I will not spend my life looking at it for the rest of my life so i can live with that if it comes to compatibility and quality.

3. Ty :D

Yeah i read some articles and saw the reason behind the prices going up... it's sad that the time when i want to upgrade my pc is the worst time to do it in the history hahah

4. Yeah..... yeeeeeaaahhhhh

5. To be honest the cooler is like a wish... dream of some sort. I don't think I'm gonna get it cause, first I'm gonna move next year and all that liquid and airplanes and stuff just makes me scared. Second.. it's the thing that if i go with the 8400 that think is apparently good with its stock cpu cooler, so a water cooling system is an overkill (1% difference in performance). I'm still thinking if maybe i should go out of my budget to get the 8600k... as you said it's better, I will have more time to relax.. but the overclocking for me is like making a nuke cause I think that everything will explode if I make a wrong move and it stresses me out. But yeah idk. I have 3 months to decide, cause my budget isn't tight but i just don't want to spend more.

Ty for the reply, you helped me a lot and sorry for the late answer... work, sleep and stuff.
