I work for a company that likes the simplicity of all-in-one computers. I am their system administrator and I have an IT manager above me. Every employee has complained to me about how slow the computers are when working. They use Chrome for their work and when it is open it typically runs at 100% when I looked at the hardware the processor is an AMD e2 1200. The OS is a clean install of Windows 10 home, (tried windows 8.1 and that was idling at 100% and updates turned off) I tried multiple different configurations with Chrome and the system is slow regardless of reaction. I tried saying it was an issue with the hardware and that we may want to get new devices, but the IT manager said that it isn't an issue with the hardware and that hardware unless BSOD is never an issue with speed on web browsing.

I have set the systems to auto restart at the start of every morning before they come in. That typically helps them, and they are slowly BSOD (simple reasons like an HDD failure but they would rather buy a new box at that point) and I have told them time and again that getting a desktop variant system will have easier maintenance and cost less then AIO systems as a whole, and perform better. The AIO they get typically cost 6-700 and they last about 2-3 years before dying. I built with scraps around the office a desktop that outperforms the AIO and dual screens which definitely would help them. They typically have 4-8 tabs open at a time and RAM space isn't an issue there.

Am I wrong to think the processor is the problem? I tried looking for a new BIOS for the systems but I can't seem to find any, they are: HP Pavilions 20-b010

That system on clean install of Win10 should run fine (I've tested a near identical system). Not great, but perfectly fine for web browsing. It's definitely slow if running a lot of apps or browser windows (I'd say at most 4-5) though.

Is it actually a clean install (no other apps installed)? How does Edge work compared to Chrome? It sounds like an issue with Chrome if it's at 100%.

Here is the BIOS update for it: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-pavilion-20-b000-all-in-one-desktop-pc-series/5295901/model/5296765/swItemId/cp-144848-1

The RAM and HDD is upgradable, if you want to go that route, it's standard notebook RAM sticks and desktop HDD. But of course a desktop PC would be easier to upgrade, not really better than an AIO though once you add up the cost, unless you'll be doing smaller incremental upgrades (not typical in a business environment, but that's up to you to determine).

Can you provide a bit more about the issue?

  1. How many employees are having this issue
  2. Are they on WiFi or wired
  3. What are speedtest results from the AIOs
  4. What are speedtest results from a desktop on the same connection as the AIOs

These can help determine if the issue is with the devices or the network.

Sorry for the delay:

1. 15

2. Wired

3. 20-25 down 4-6 up

4. Same.

Thank you so much for the BIOS I couldn't find it anywhere! I had a few systems with poor performance and a bios update did the trick, these I couldn't find a BIOS update. The HDD and RAM have been easily swapped out. I've actually had to do that a few times. Edge and Firefox have the same result on the CPU. Chrome is what they have to use the EMR system.
