M.2 boot drive

Go to solution Solved by JaegerB,

An m.2 will work fine for a boot drive. Just bear in mind that if his m.2 is runs on nvme, it will have faster read/write speeds but no difference to boot and game load times over sata. M.2s can also encounter heat throttling due to the lack of a heatsink and proximity to high-temperature components (gpu, for example), however this is unlikely.

My friend is about to buy new PC parts, considering his parts are from -08.

He's really interested in getting an M.2 SSD as his primary C: drive for OS, though I am asking this because I've heard that for some reason that's not possible.

Has this changed in any way?

Can he just buy a ASUS ROG Strix B350-F Gaming (which is the specific model he wants), slap in an M.2 SSD and fire away?

If BIOS updates is what's required then that's not an issue.

He'll be buying, RAM, MOBO and CPU first. Adding little by little to the build.

So for now he will keep running his current HDD's, what I mean to say is that his BIOS will be up to date when he gets his M.2 drive.

Any issues?

Thanks!

HEADS UP, THIS ACCOUNT IS INACTIVE NOW

I'm keeping everything else the way it was for anyone who might check out my answers in future, but I won't be using LTT.

This is precisely what I needed, thank you. :)
