Hi guys, this is my first time posting so please enlighten me if I did anything wrong.

I just started doing my degree in computer science and when I use my laptop in university it just dies really fast, even on power saving mode, the estimation on Windows 10 is never accurate.

So I thought about finding a thinner laptop with better battery life but performs okay in esport titles such as Overwatch, Dota 2 and CSGO.

I can't spend too much as I don't get to work right now, but I'm looking at this http://h20386.www2.hp.com/MalaysiaStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=ECC_BUNDLE_6599852&opt=&sel=NTB which is pretty light and has an MX150 which is equivalent to a GT1030 in terms of performance, but I'm worried about the thermals for this laptop under higher loads. I have traumatic experience with laptops with bad thermals such as my current one, which goes 60-65 on basic web browsing and goes full blown 93c when playing games. I hope to find out about this laptop's thermals, or get anything thats similar in pricing and performance.

Thanks!

With undervolting the thermals should be fine since ULV CPU and MX150 only produces little heat

Acer Aspire 5 (budget) and HP Envy 13 are good choices. Asus Vivobook Pro (i5 7300HQ, GTX 1050) also not bad but the screen quality of the model sold in Malaysia is subpar

Also, you should avoid MSI GV,GL,GP series despite the low weight since their build quality is mediocre

i thought about going for the 7th gen HQ series but I'm thinking that its going to be completely obsolete when the 8th gen HQ series comes out if i'm going for a gaming laptop route. But the HP Envy 13 is a pretty nice choice since I'm doing light gaming and it has decent battery life. Still thinking through and through.

Yup, 8th gen HQ chips is a much better investment. There's a review on the Envy x360 (pretty much the same with Envy 13) in this forum (member reviews section) so you can check it out.

I just went through the thread quickly and it's really impressive, as it's not much of a sacrifice of graphics when you have portability and battery life. I don't even mind running PUBG on low anyway so it's completely fine

Go for it if you liked it. A good consumer laptop must have good build quality (no/less plastic chassis), good battery life, portable, good display, plenty of ports and good input devices (trackpad, keyboard). The Envy 13 almost tick all the boxes expect for the 'OK'ish input devices and 'OK'ish amount of ports

Also, buy through online stores like Lelong (some sellers are reputable sellers so don't worry) and Lazada if you want the best price
