What interface is this?

I have a 40gb Hitachi travelstar laptop hdd and was wondering what interface this is so I could get a usb adapter. Thanks

That would be an adapter for a parallel IDE interface, you should be able to pull it off to reveal a bunch of pins below it that constitute an IDE cable connector. Not suitable for modern PCs because they have no IDE connectors on the motherboard.

I just pulled it off (thank you for the advice)... is it now a standard IDE conector?

I believe that there is a smaller standard for IDE connectors in laptops that has pins closer together than they would be in a desktop drive. There should in theory be adapters to normal IDE or USB adapters designed for that (also it may have a name that would help when searching, I don't remember it though).
