Local Windows Server for storage?

Go to solution Solved by DrDevinRX,

You can most certainly use another computer as a file server. All you would need to do is attach hard disks to your server and create network shares to the files you want to share across the network. This can be done in any version of Windows and is not limited to the Windows Server products.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, if you want it showing up in My Computer, you would have to map the shares as network drives or you can manually navigate to the shares.

Hello, I am thinking of getting a small server as my hard drive is getting very full and I am tired of adding new drives, along with the fact that I want to be able to not have to edit it for a while. I had in mind something like, I don't really know how to describe it, a windows network server???

What I am trying to say is, is that it would show up here:

and would be able to be accessed through Window's file explorer, as seen in Linus's video [All of our data is GONE!]:

Thank you for your reply.

You could do it if you are looking for something to do(project or something) and it is actually quite easy once you have the machine with the right amount of storage you want. (just share the drive)

OR you could just buy one that is pre-setup for that sort of thing. Really depends on what kind of speed you are looking for and what you have to spend.
